Itemity Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 1, 2026

This is the privacy part of the Terms of Use & Privacy for the Itemity app by 852 Technologies LLC, based in Pennsylvania, United States. The full terms are here: Full Terms of Use & Privacy

Barcode lookup services

Barcode lookup uses independent services, currently Open Food Facts and its sister databases, and UPCitemdb. We do not own, operate or control them and do not guarantee their content, legality, availability, response time, limits, security or continued operation.

Those services may change, restrict, suspend or stop service without notice. Your use of them is subject to their own terms, licences and privacy policies. Open Food Facts data is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Links, names or access to third-party products or services do not mean that we endorse, sponsor or accept responsibility for them. To the fullest extent permitted by law, your dealings with third parties are between you and that third party.

Itemity Pro, purchases and free trial

Some features (“Itemity Pro features”) require a purchase. Each is a one-time purchase of a licence to use that feature in the App; it is not a subscription and does not renew. The “Version 1 Bundle” is a one-time purchase covering the Itemity Pro features listed for it in the App; it does not include Itemity Pro features we add in later versions, which may be sold separately or in a later bundle. Prices are shown in the App and by the app store before you buy, in your local currency, and may include tax.

Purchases are made and paid for through Google Play or the Apple App Store under their terms, using the store account you are signed in to. We do not receive or store your payment details. Refunds, if any, are handled by the store under its refund policy and applicable law. We do not provide refunds, credits or other compensation ourselves, except where mandatory law requires it. To restore purchases on a new or reset device, use Restore Purchases in the App while signed in to the same store account.

For a limited period after you first install the App (currently 10 days), all Itemity Pro features are available free of charge as a trial. When the trial ends, Itemity Pro features you have not purchased are no longer available; data you created with them stays on your device. We may offer introductory or limited-time prices, shown in the App together with the period they apply to. We may change prices for future purchases; a change does not affect a purchase already made.

A purchased feature remains available for as long as we offer and support the App on your platform. If we have to remove or materially change a purchased feature, we will act reasonably and provide any remedy required by applicable law or the store’s rules.

Privacy and device data

The current version of Itemity has no server operated by 852 Technologies LLC and no advertising service. Your inventory, photos, settings and optional device-local login profile (display name, username, a hashed password, an authenticator secret, a hashed date of birth used only to recover the authenticator, an optional recovery email address and an optional profile picture) are stored on your device, not in an online account with us. Some data is processed by third-party services only as described below. The database that holds your records (items, purchases, usage, categories, locations, people and settings) is encrypted using a random key that the App creates on your device and keeps in its secure storage. Photos and icons are stored as ordinary files in the App’s private storage and are not encrypted by the App. If you add a home-screen widget, a short summary of your inventory (for example the names of items that are expiring, your shopping list and reorder suggestions) is kept unencrypted in the App’s private storage so the widget can show it; it is visible on your home screen whenever the widget is, even if the App’s login is turned on.

When you request a barcode lookup, the barcode number is sent to the third-party lookup services described above. Like other internet requests, those services also receive technical request data such as your IP address and may process it under their own privacy policies. No other inventory fields are intentionally included in the lookup request. When you choose a 3D icon that isn't built into the App, it is downloaded once from a public hosting service for an open-source icon library, which receives technical request data such as your IP address. When a lookup finds a product photo, the App may download it from the address the service gave, which can be a server of Open Food Facts or of a retailer or other website listed by UPCitemdb; that server receives technical request data such as your IP address.

To sell and restore Itemity Pro features, the App uses Google Play or Apple App Store billing and an independent purchase-management provider. The App sends that provider a random identifier created for this installation of the App (not your name or email address), purchase and restore records, and technical data such as the app version, platform, store country and ordinary network request data (such as your IP address). The provider and the store process this data under their own privacy terms to verify purchases and tell the App which features you own. Your inventory data is not sent.

The App uses an independent app-update and diagnostics provider to deliver app updates and to measure performance. When the App starts, it checks the provider’s servers for updates, sending technical data such as the app version, platform and a random identifier created for this installation. The App also sends the provider anonymous performance and crash reports: start-up and screen-drawing times, device model and operating-system version, battery, temperature and network state, a summary of the network requests made during start-up (such as which servers were contacted), and details of errors and crashes, tagged with that random installation identifier. These reports do not include your inventory, photos or login details, and are used only to find and fix problems. The provider processes this data under its own privacy terms.

The App accesses the camera or photo library only when you choose a feature that needs it, such as scanning a barcode or adding a photo, and subject to your device permissions. Photos remain device-local unless you choose to export, share or back them up.

When you create or share a backup, you choose the destination. The recipient or storage provider you select—including a cloud-storage, file or email provider—may receive the backup and related technical data under its own terms and privacy policy.

If you choose to send a problem report, your email app opens with the report so that you can review it before sending. It contains technical information—the app version, device model and operating system, app language, this installation’s support ID, app settings, counts of stored records, and recent error details (including the screens and actions just before the newest error)—but not item names, photos or login details.

If you contact us, we receive the contact details and message content you provide. We may use and retain them as reasonably necessary to respond, provide support, protect legal rights, prevent abuse and comply with law. We do not sell personal information.

Because we do not possess your device-local App data, you normally access, correct or delete it using the App or your device, including by clearing App data or uninstalling. Purchase records held by our purchase-management provider can be deleted on request; please include the support ID shown in About > Application Info. Applicable law may give you additional rights (see “Your privacy rights” below). For privacy questions or requests concerning information we may hold, contact support@852technologies.com

Your data and backups

You are solely responsible for maintaining suitable backups and for checking that they can be restored. Uninstalling the App, clearing its data, device failure, loss, theft, operating-system changes or App errors may permanently erase data that is not recoverable from a valid backup.

The App keeps your inventory only on your device. Android's automatic backup and cloud-backup services do not include it, so uninstalling the App, clearing its data or switching to a new phone leaves you with no data. To keep your data, create a backup in the App (More > Backup / Restore) and save it outside the App, for example in cloud storage. The App can remind you to back up regularly.

Backup files are intended to be encrypted using a password you choose. We do not receive or store that password and cannot recover it. A forgotten password, damaged file, incompatible version or technical failure may make a backup unusable. Files you export as CSV (More > Import / Export) are not encrypted: anyone who can open the file can read it.

You are responsible for protecting your device, login details, backup passwords and exported files, and for the security and availability of any location or service where you store or send a backup.

Security

Security features reduce risk but cannot guarantee absolute security. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for unauthorised access, loss or corruption caused by your device, credentials, chosen storage provider, third party, malware or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Website feedback form

The Itemity website has an optional form operated by an independent feedback-form provider. Loading or submitting the form may give the provider ordinary technical request data such as your IP address; submitting it gives the provider your answers. The form also has optional name and email fields for people who want to be told when an iPhone version is available; you can leave them blank and still submit your answers. If you fill them in, we use your name and email only to send that notice, and keep them until we send it or you ask us to delete them at support@852technologies.com. Please do not include other personal information. We use the answers only to decide what to improve or build next. The form is on the website only and is not part of the App.

Website visit counter

The Itemity website uses a privacy-oriented aggregate analytics provider to count visits and shows the number of page views in the home-page footer. The current configuration does not use cookies or local-storage identifiers and is not intended to store full IP addresses, full user-agent strings or persistent visitor identifiers. When you open the page, the provider receives ordinary technical request data, including the page opened, referral information and general browser information. The counter is on the website only and is not part of the App.

Website hosting and delivery

The Itemity website is delivered by website hosting and content-delivery providers, including for the fonts it displays. They receive ordinary technical request data, such as your IP address, the page requested and the time, and process it under their own privacy terms. The website is not part of the App.

Who is responsible and why we process data

852 Technologies LLC, based in Pennsylvania, United States, is responsible for the personal information described in this notice for which we decide the purposes. App stores, barcode data sources and external websites operate independently under their own privacy terms.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process data to provide the features and purchases you request, to comply with legal duties, for our legitimate interests in securing, maintaining and improving the App and responding to you, and with your consent where required. Giving feedback or contact details is optional, but without contact details we may be unable to reply.

Sharing, sale and advertising

We disclose only the data needed to providers that support purchase management, app updates and diagnostics, barcode lookup, website hosting and delivery, feedback forms and aggregate analytics, and to the app stores you use. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Itemity contains no third-party advertising and does not track you across other apps or websites, so “Do Not Track” and Global Privacy Control signals do not change how the App or our website works.

Retention and international processing

Data on your device stays until you delete it or the device or the App removes it. We keep support messages, optional feedback contact details and provider records only for the purposes described above, for as long as reasonably necessary for support, security and legal obligations, or until a valid deletion request applies. Providers keep the data they hold for the periods set by their own privacy terms.

Providers may process data outside your state or country, including in the United States. Where applicable law requires it, we rely on contracts and other appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Hong Kong), you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and for a copy of it, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and not to be treated unfavourably for using these rights. Email support@852technologies.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity, and an authorised agent may act for you with your written permission.

We will respond within the time applicable law requires (generally 30 to 45 days) and tell you if we cannot fully honour a request, and why. If you disagree with our decision you may reply to ask us to review it. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. Some data may have to be kept for legal, security or recordkeeping reasons.

For Hong Kong residents: giving us personal data is voluntary; the purposes of collection and the classes of recipients are described in this notice, and you may ask for access to and correction of your personal data at the address above.

Children

Itemity is a general-audience home-inventory tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact support@852technologies.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this notice

We will update the effective date above when this notice changes and provide additional website or in-app notice when a change is material and appropriate.
